Big vs. Small Stuff

My husband and I were flying back to LA from Mexico City and were asked for the immigration sheet at boarding. Not knowing it would be needed again, I had thrown it away at the hotel.

I sprinted to the immigration office in a frenzy and was redirected to another location outside the security area with armed officers. In my encounters, I was reminded I was a second-class citizen in a country not my own.

I made it back to the gate with a few minutes to spare, but boarding was closed. We missed our flight, were sent on a wild goose chase of required check-ins, became tardy on our 24 hours COVID requirement, and were asked to pay for another flight.

I felt a great deal of stress in those moments, but when my husband put his arm around me and told me it was not my fault, something changed. I realized that this is the small stuff in the grand scheme of things. The big stuff is that I am loved and not alone.

Single or married, that is who we are in Christ – loved and not alone.

Over and over, the Bible tells us of God’s unfailing love, and Isaiah 41:10 says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Hopefully, in the future, I will remember that even in the most stressful situations, God is with me, and that is enough to remain hopeful and strong.
