Gratitude vs. COVID

My family had COVID, and we are mostly recovered, but I still can’t taste or smell.

Driving to church on the beach, I put the window down and turned the radio off so I could listen to the sounds of morning. The birds were especially full of song and reminded me how God was shifting my attention from what was wrong with my life to what was right.

I was reminded that losing my taste and smell had made me cherish the many blessings I do have. Early morning hikes where I watch the sunrise, the care behind a friend’s homemade meal, and my husband’s hand gently waking me from a bad dream. And of course, my energy returning and how I was beginning to feel like me again—just with a little more gratitude.

God always turns our eyes to the beauty surrounding us when we look to Him in our lack.
