Listen vs. Force
Sometimes I wish I could have a do-over with some of my parenting choices. Like we can overwater our plants, we can take over our children's lives, leaving little room for them to figure things out for themselves or learn from their mistakes.
Just like we can harm our plants when we overwater them, we can hurt our children by overparenting. There is a difference when I help versus take over.
I have become a bit of a “green thumb” when I finally listened to my plants and watered them only when they were dry. Too much of a good thing isn’t good. I have learned to listen instead of thinking I know what is best.
Along with our children, nature also teaches us all kinds of lessons when we let it. What has nature taught you?
Like Job 12 teaches us, “Ask the animals, and they will instruct you . . . or speak to the earth, and it will teach you.” Creation teaches us valuable lessons when we listen to its ways.
